Firm News: Guest on Radio Show AM950 with Bruce Klopfleisch
This August I was invited by Bruce Klopfleisch, a radio host at AM950, on his show Politics Matters to discuss estate planning and estate administration.
To me, estate planning comes from a place of love and a desire to make the transition easier and smoother for loved ones after death. Estate planning can include a Will, Trust, Health Care Directive, and Powers of Attorney, as well as other documents. Bruce and I discussed how emotions can drive estate planning. We also discussed some general advice about selecting fiduciaries and back ups for each role, including personal representatives, health care agents, and attorneys-in-fact. It’s important to consult with a lawyer to prepare these documents to make sure they not only meet statutory requirements, but also actually meet and reflect a person’s goals and needs for estate planning. For some clients, their main goal is to avoid probate and court proceedings; for others, the main goal is to make sure that their kids and grandkids still have Thanksgiving together long after they are gone.
And a warm thank you to Bruce and his colleagues at AM950 for the opportunity to discuss these matters close to my own heart!
