Firm News: Probate, Trusts, and Estates Council Appointment

I’m excited to announce that for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, I will be serving on the Council for the Probate, Trusts, and Estates Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association.

The Minnesota State Bar Association has “sections” for the different practice areas of attorneys in Minnesota. For example, there is a Business Law Section, an Immigration Law Section, a Criminal Law Section, and so on. For most of my practice, I have been a member of the Elder Law Section, the Solo and Small Experience Section, and the Probate, Trusts, and Estates Section. The Probate, Trusts, and Estates Section is the largest section I’ve been in during my 14 years as an attorney, with over a thousand members of the section.

These sections are run by “Councils”. The Council for each section is made up of a select group of 3-15ish attorneys, leaders in their practice area, who volunteer their time to oversee the work of the section. The Council’s job is to run annual conferences, manage pro bono options, keep members of the section informed about law changes, and otherwise set the agenda for attorneys in our practice area throughout Minnesota.

I have been serving as the co-Chair of the Public Service Committee for the Probate, Trusts, and Estates Council for the last year and half, which has given me a new opportunity to serve my community in the pro bono space. This summer, I was asked to serve as a full Councilmember, in addition to my existing duties with the Public Service Committee. During our annual large Section conference in June, the members of my section voted me officially onto the Council. I am eager to start my service this year!
